New York Stock Exchange Facade with Flag New York Stock Exchange

This is the facade of the New York Stock Exchange, taken from Broad Street (oddly enough, the main entrance pictured isn't actually on Wall Street).

These green benches rest on purple (yes, purple) pavement -- it's very Seussian.

Empire State Building Empire State Building (from the Lower West Side)
Image Size: 400 x 300 | 800 x 600 | 1280 x 1024 | Original (3072 x 2304) (Portrait Images)

The Empire State Building is tough to miss from (almost) anywhere in Manhattan.

The walk across the Brooklyn Bridge is a good one -- if you can figure out where it starts (just across from City Hall Park). If you're at the Seaport, though, you're not very close to the start, even though you'll think you must be.

Tall Ship Peking Tall Ship Peking at the Seaport
Image Size: 400 x 300 | 800 x 600 | 1280 x 1024 (Portrait Images)

The Peking is one of a couple tall ships moored (as far as I can tell) permanently at the South Street Sea Port located on the East River, downtown and at the end of Fulton Street.

Image Size: 400 x 300 | 800 x 600 | 1280 x 1024 | Original (3072 x 2304)

The Wavertree is the other tall ship at the Seaport. If you try hard enough, you can see one of the Brooklyn Bridge towers through the rigging.

It doesn't rain often in the city, but when it does, it RAINS. Sudden thunderstorms are common, especially in May and June, so there are umbrella vendors everywhere. The vendors are likewise sudden.

Manhattan Bridge The Manhattan Bridge from Brooklyn

The Manhattan Bridge runs parallel to the Brooklyn Bridge and the two really are within shouting distance of one another. Manhattan's newer, though, and also carries subway lines over the river.

Image Size: 400 x 300 | 800 x 600 | 1280 x 1024 | Original (3072 x 2304)

The 2-train screeches to a halt at the 14th Street Station on a quiet Sunday afternoon.

Madison Square Park Madison Square Park
Image Size: 400 x 300 | 800 x 600 | 1280 x 1024 | Original (3072 x 2304) (Portrait Images)

Madison Square Park starts where Madison Avenue ends at 23rd Street. The ridiculously popular "Shake Shack" sells burgers and (um) shakes, but I've never had the guts to wait through that line to see if it's worth it. Some day.

New York State Supreme Court New York State Supreme Court Building

The New York State Supreme Court Building. Which for some reason isn't in Albany.

Trinity Church at Night Trinity Church at Night
Image Size: 400 x 300 | 800 x 600 | 1280 x 1024 | Original (3072 x 2304) (Portrait Images)

This shot is taken just a little ways down Wall Street from Trinity Church. The orange-and-white pipe there on the right is one of the city's ubiquitous steam pipes. This one's steam smells like maple.

Times Square, Facing North Times Square, Facing North
Image Size: 400 x 300 | 800 x 600 | 1280 x 1024 | Original (3072 x 2304)

A shot down Broadway from the corner of ... 45th Street? Somewhere around there.

Times Square, Facing South Times Square, Facing South
Image Size: 400 x 300 | 800 x 600 | 1280 x 1024 | Original (3072 x 2304)

This shot faces south from Times Square. Neat reflection in the puddle, too. Times Square is pretty after it rains.

China Town Fish Store Chinatown Fish Store
Image Size: 400 x 300 | 800 x 600 | 1280 x 1024 | Original (3072 x 2304)

Chinatown is full of fish stores like this one. Not a good place for people who can't stand the smell of fish (or don't like the sight of fish blood running freely down the gutters). Unless you're one of those people, though, it's pretty cool.

Little Italy, Mulberry Street Little Italy - Mulberry Street
Image Size: 400 x 300 | 800 x 600 | 1280 x 1024 | Original (3072 x 2304)

Canal Street forms the border between Chinatown (below Canal) and Little Italy (above). Mulberry Street is the street in Little Italy, lined on both sides by good and great Italian restaurants.

Brooklyn Bridge Ramp Brooklyn Bridge Ramps
Image Size: 400 x 300 | 800 x 600 | 1280 x 1024 | Original (3072 x 2304)

The south(west) part of the Brooklyn Bridge. The onramps to this thing are downright byzantine (try figuring out how to get on it from the Brooklyn side -- I dare you) and it's a dang old bridge. But: no toll!

St. Paul's Chapel St. Paul's Chapel
Image Size: 400 x 300 | 800 x 600 | 1280 x 1024 | Original (3072 x 2304)

St. Paul's is located right across the street from the World Trade Center site and somehow (miraculously?) was spared any major damage on 9/11. It's also the place where George Washington prayed before his inauguration.

Tall Ship Peking Winter Evening at the Natural History Museum
Image Size: 400 x 300 | 800 x 600 | 1280 x 1024

A beautiful, snowy evening on the Upper West Side. The Natural History Museum, by the way, is huge, very cool, and probably the best "family museum" in the City (it's included in the New York CityPass).

SR-71 on the Intrepid SR-71 on the Deck of the Intrepid
Image Size: 400 x 300 | 800 x 600 | 1280 x 1024 | Original (3072 x 2304)

The Intrepid is an aircraft carrier parked in the Hudson River that serves as an Air/Sea/Space museum. I just wish I'd have been there when they landed the SR-71 on the carrier. Must have been exciting.

Note on Original Photos: The images linked to above as "Original" are, in fact, the original digital photos. Meaning that they're un-cropped, un-sharpened, un-color-balanced, and in all ways completely un-Photoshopped. Also, since they're mostly 7.1 megapixel JPEG files, they're relatively large (ca. 2.5 MB) and will take some time to download.
